Upasika Sarah Marks has guided retreats and taught classes at MLA since 2006. She was interested in Buddhism as a child. She began to learn about Theravada Buddhism from Bhante Gunaratana, the author of the popular book, “Mindfulness in Plain English” in 1969. Later he introduced her to the late Venerable Sayadaw U Silananda. From1979 onwards she studied very closely with Venerable U Silananda on Abhidhamma, Visuddhimagga , and Vipassana meditation practice. She helped and supported Venerable Sayadaw U Silananda in his teachings of Buddhism and Vipassana for many years until he passed away in 2005. She attended, and transcribed and edited many of Sayadaw’s Dhamma talks. She has done a number of long retreats in Burma and the United States. Practice Schedule
